WHAT IS PEYRONIE’S DISEASE?
Peyronie’s disease affects a man’s ability to have a normal erection. Fibrous scar tissue develops beneath the surface of the penis, leading to excessive curvature of the male organ. Initially, inflammation and swelling occur. Thereafter, a hard scar develops on the penis.
Peyronie’s Disease is quite common, despite the lack of public awareness. According to Johns Hopkins, as many as one in 11 men have Peyronie’s.
The scar tissue — also called a plaque — forms inside the tunica albuginea tissue (a thick, elastic membrane primarily made of collagen and elastin). The plaque causes the penis to bend. As scar tissue builds, erections become painful and sexual intercourse difficult. Excessive curves in the penis may make sexual intercourse impossible.

The most common symptoms of Peyronie’s Disease include:
- Scar Tissue Build-Up: A man may notice hard lumps or bands of tissue under the skin of his penis.
- Significant Penis Bend: A major symptom of Peyronie’s is penile curvature in any direction, defined by an unnatural and severe curve or bend, with or without an erection.
- Misshapen Penis: Occasionally, this disease can cause portions of the erect penis to narrow, often resembling an hourglass in shape.
- Penis Shortening: Some men note that the length of their penis is reduced when Peyronie’s is present.
- Penis Pain: Peyronie’s can cause a man to experience penile pain whether he has an erection or not.
- Erectile Dysfunction: Otherwise healthy men with Peyronie’s may experience problems getting or maintaining an erection.
Peyronie’s Disease can have a profound impact on a man’s sexual health and self-esteem, often leading to pain not only for the individual but also for their partner. It’s frequently linked to erectile dysfunction and may contribute to strain in intimate relationships. While a curved erection by itself isn’t always problematic, the significant bend and discomfort typically seen in Peyronie’s Disease can be distressing. Fortunately, treatment may help reduce these symptoms in some patients.
At Activation Clinic, we used a customized protocol combining specialized intensive GAINSWave treatments with the P-Shots. GAINSWave is a patented protocol of Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy which breaks up the Peyronie’s scar tissue plaque, decreases inflammation, increases blood flow, and helps regenerate healthy tissue. The P-Shot is PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Therapy works synergistically with GAINSWave to facilitate the formation of healthy tissue and blood vessels.
Both the GAINSWave and P-Shot treatments for Peyronie’s Disease are safe, minimally invasive, with no downtime. Dr. Cho at Activation Clinic is the only healthcare provider in Honolulu who is trained and certified in both GAINSWave and the P-Shot for Peyronie’s Disease.
